Visiting Tamil Nadu? Grab Your E-Pass Now For THESE Destinations!

Gear up for an exciting summer and head to quaint hamlets in the hills. Only this time, head to the hill stations nestled in the Nilgiri ranges, namely Ooty and Kodaikanal. Situated in Tamil Nadu, both these hill stations are among the cooler destinations that are flooded by tourists during the scorching summers. To manage this influx of tourists, the Madras High Court has introduced a mandatory e-pass that you should obtain before you can visit Ooty or Kodaikanal. This initiative has come in the wake of regulating tourist flow, decongesting traffic, and resolving other challenges. It’s in effect from May 7 to June 3 which marks the peak season for tourism in both Ooty and Kodaikanal.

The e-pass was introduced by Justices D. Bharatha Chakravarthy and N.Sathish Kumar in a special division. Natives of these two hill stations are exempted from this initiative and those looking to visit can apply for the e-pass on the official website (epass.tnega.org). The high court also clarified that this is just to maintain records of the registrations, so, you’ll always be granted the pass whenever you want.

Once you register on the website, a QR code will be sent to your registered mobile number that you need to show when traveling in Ooty or Kodaikanal. This method will alleviate traffic congestion on narrow roads as only vehicles that provide the QR will be allowed to pass.
