In what is welcome news to travelers that have been waiting to visit the northeastern paradise that is Sikkim, the state government announced that they would be welcoming tourists from October 10th onwards.

It is being reported that the Sikkim government has permitted hotels, homestays, hostels,  guesthouses and all other tourism related services to resume operations.  Sikkim will also lift any covid  led border restrictions and reopen the border with West Bengal from October 1st 2020, thus promoting unrestricted road travel between the two states.

It is also being reported that Sikkim will enforce an odd-even rule for public vehicles from the 1st of October.

Sikkim had earlier implemented a  road rationing rule, this was done in order to  reduce vehicular traffic and pollution in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The rule was focused on limiting the number of cards allowed to be on the road on the basis of the last digit of the registration number.

Meanwhile a week long lockdown was announced in Gangtok from yesterday until the 27th of September to curtail the spread of COVID-19 infections. Despite the lockdown, Sikkim is seemingly readying itself to reopen for tourism as early as from October 10th.
