INR 3,600 Crore Approved To Develop Tourism Infrastructure In Lakshadweep

With Lakshadweep getting more and more attention, it’s all set to get a major glow-up! Until now, the Union Territory was an offbeat destination in India and it surely wasn’t prepared for the sudden influx of tourists. During the Interim Budget 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced better port connectivity, tourism infrastructure, and more for Lakshadweep, making the archipelago more accessible.

13 projects in total have been planned with a funding of INR 3,600 crore from the Sagarmala Programme, a government initiative to develop India’s ports and waterways. According to the development plan, Androth, Kalpeni, and Kadmat islands will have port facilities. On the other hand, beachfront and peripheral roads will be constructed on Kadmat Island (East), Agatti Island (East), and Kavaratti Island.

With these heavy investments, the Indian Government aims at making Lakshadweep a premium tourist destination.
